Case management

  • Case statuses — Cases now have a status field visible in the Case List table and Case Detail drawer. Examiners can track investigation progress across the full workflow.
  • Persistent column configuration — Column selection, order, and width in the Case List table are saved per user and restored on next login.
  • Evidence list — table and grid view — Evidence lists can be displayed in either table or grid layout. User preference is remembered between sessions.

Automated Enrollment-to-Evidence Search for Latent Prints

  • When a person is enrolled, their fingerprints are automatically searched against latent evidence in all open cases. If a match above the configured threshold is found, a comparison examination is created automatically.
  • Automatically created examinations are marked with a ⚡ symbol to distinguish them from manually created ones.
  • Potential hits appear in the Examinations tab under Automated Enrollment-to-Evidence Searches.
  • The feature is configurable per installation: threshold, candidate count, speed level, and galleries.
  • Configurable deduplication parameters — Administrators can fine-tune deduplication behaviour via settings.

Investigation improvements

  • Configurable minutiae display — Minutiae points in the comparison tool can now be toggled on/off independently.
  • Minutiae count and image size in editor — The latent editor displays minutiae count and image dimensions directly in the toolbar.
  • Comparison examinations from video — Examiners can create comparison examinations directly from video face tracklets without leaving the video manager.

Video manager

  • Full-screen mode added for video evidence viewing.
  • Play controls consolidated into a single row; volume display, colour selection labels, and font sizing are now consistent throughout.
  • Video processing parameter form updated for more precise configuration.

Reporting

  • Examination reports exported to .docx now reflect the latest case and examination data structures, including all ACE-V fields.

Bug fixes​

  • Hit List — Search by applicant ID for Known/Biometric Individual returns correct results. Deduplicated applicants now show the correct applicant ID in the Hit detail.
  • Latent editor — Select tool no longer behaves as if Ctrl is permanently held.
  • Search history — History mode is available when Search History is opened from Analytical Examination.
  • Comparison examination — Creating a comparison from a video face tracklet no longer reads incorrect data. Fixed a blocker preventing comparison examinations from being created in certain scenarios.
  • Administration — Case management settings no longer show stale values after navigation.
  • Evidence — Uploaded evidence is immediately visible in personal cases after upload. Video evidence upload resolved for all database environments.
  • Deduplication — Comparison pairs are no longer incorrectly generated during deduplication.

  • Licenses — Using biometric features with an expired license now shows an informational message rather than an unhandled error state.

  • Administration — User Management: Fixed issue preventing management of users assigned to a custom category.

Breaking changes
  • Biometric templates must be re-extracted — The face processing engine was upgraded. Existing biometric templates must be re-extracted after upgrading before the system can operate normally.
  • REST API — Several deprecated fields, parameters, and templates were removed. Review the upgrade guide before updating.
  • Roles and rights administration — Access is now restricted to users with the appropriate administrative permissions.

Bug fixes​

  • Enrollment — Writer's palm image from Mannix scanner is no longer cropped in the gallery. Fingerprint position assignment for left slaps corrected.
  • Applicants — Applicant hard-delete is now significantly faster.

Breaking changes
  • Case management API redesigned — The API for case create, delete, and get operations has been redesigned. Review the updated API schema before upgrading.
  • Modality field — The print value is deprecated. Use latent instead in all relevant operations.
  • Nomad deployment removed — Kubernetes is now the only supported deployment method.

Export/Import

  • When a person is created from an imported file, the original filename is used for the attachment instead of a generated name.

Case management

  • Notification emitted on report generation, for use by external systems integrated with ABIS.
  • DPI adjustment now supported up to 4,000 DPI.

Bug fixes​

  • Case management — Fixed display of examination image when no minutia point was detected. Fixed GYRO annotation issues: incorrect annotation numbering, naming convention mismatch, annotation info not shown when linked, and visual annotations deleted when a whole examination is deleted.

Applicants

  • Custom document types — Document type is now defined via a configurable code list.
  • Applicant relations — Users can assign relations between applicants (kinship, etc.); relations are configurable by administrators.
  • Change history view — New view in applicant detail showing a chronological record of changes made to the record.

Deduplication

  • New enroll action type: the system can decide whether to create a new record or renew an existing one based on a reference ID in the imported file.
  • Each gallery now has separate settings for deduplication and biometric update. Duplicate, Merge, and Mismatched hits are routed to the probe gallery's default resolve queues.

  • Fingerprint templates — ICS templates are no longer supported. Only embedding and ICL templates are accepted. Existing ICS templates must be re-extracted before upgrading.

General

  • Fingerprint login — Officers can log in to ABIS using their enrolled fingerprints. The system prevents enrollment officers from enrolling their own fingerprints for a different person.
  • Initial page after login is configurable based on user rights.

Enrollment

  • Offline enrollment — Enrollment stations can operate in standalone mode without a network connection. Data synchronises when the station is connected again, or via export/import.
  • Enrollment kit management:
    • Kit registration on the central server via encrypted communication
    • Admin/supervisor/operator initialization per kit
    • Remote kit lock capability

Case management

  • ACE-V evidence report — ABIS can generate a forensic evidence report following the ACE-V methodology. Output is .docx format (editable before court submission). The report contains: original evidence, analyzed and enhanced evidence with minutia points, searches performed, decisions (hit / no hit / inconclusive), and verification of the evidence.

  • Applicants can now be searched by external ID.
  • When a record is hard-deleted, all associated attachments are also deleted.

Case management

  • ACE-V decisions in Comparison tool — Examiners can record a decision for each candidate returned by identification: Individualized, Excluded, or Inconclusive.
  • ACE-V examination creation dialog now includes a default name to speed up the workflow.

Administration

  • Code-tables section redesigned.
  • Notifications are now disabled by default; an administrator can enable them if required.

Breaking changes
  • ACE-V evidence model — Face and fingerprint evidence now contains only the image; the biometric template is not stored at upload time. Users must create an Examination on evidence before identification can proceed.
  • Integration Service — Multiple deprecated endpoints and attributes have been removed. Review the upgrade guide before upgrading.
  • Full body image storage — Full body images are now stored as a face modality record. In NIST exchange format, they map to Type 10.

New features​

ACE-V Methodology

  • Case visibility controls — Cases can be marked Public (visible to all), Private (visible only to the assigned user), Unassigned (default), or a custom category. Users see only cases in categories assigned to them.
  • Role-based access control extended — New roles controlling access to each individual part of the Case Management module.
  • ACE-V Examinations — A new entity in Case Management. Each examination is assigned to a specific user; an evidence item can have multiple examinations (one per examiner). The user must create an examination to proceed with evidence identification.
  • ACE-V state machines — Separate state machines for Evidence and Examination. Statuses are changed manually, allowing flexibility to match agency-specific procedures.

Deployment

  • All new installations use Kubernetes by default.
  • In high-availability deployments, messages are persisted across node restarts.

  • NIST import and export supporting CJIS EBTS ver. 11.0, DoD ver. 4.1, Interpol ver. 6.0, and NIST ITL 2015 general format.
