Key features

Innovatrics ABIS Criminal Investigation is built on top of the field-proven Innovatrics ABIS biometric platform and inherits all of its core qualities, while adding a rich set of features dedicated to forensic and investigative work.

Biometric capabilities

  • Multimodal identification (1:N) and verification (1:1) for fingerprints, palm prints, latent prints, facial photos, irises and DNA profiles.
  • Latent-to-plain, latent-to-rolled and latent-to-latent matching with adjustable rotation and identification-speed parameters.
  • Multimodal fusion combining several biometric modalities into a single fused matching score, increasing accuracy in difficult investigations.
  • Configurable matching threshold tuned per agency by Innovatrics specialists during deployment.
  • Stateless, semi-stateful and fully-stateful matching modes – enabling both ad-hoc one-off comparisons and persisted, auditable searches.

Forensic-specific features

  • Cases and Evidence – first-class data structures for organizing crime-scene material in a way familiar to forensic teams.
  • Latent Editor – a powerful web-based tool for cleaning, separating, masking and minutiae-marking latent fingerprints and palm prints; includes face-editing tools as well.
  • Comparison Tool – side-by-side visual comparison of probe and candidate with eye-position normalisation for faces, image normalisation for prints, and matching-feature highlighting.
  • ACE-V workflow – Analysis, Comparison, Evaluation and Verification tracked end-to-end on each examination, with full state history. The workflow is configurable per deployment, supporting both blind and non-blind verification, configurable resolutions, and adaptable transition behaviour.
  • Hits with relation types – every confirmed comparison is recorded as a hit with a relation type (Individualized, Excluded, Inconclusive). Hits are immutable in the sense that they are soft-deleted and never overwritten.
  • Snapshots and history – every change to an evidence or examination image (cropping, rotation, mask, minutiae) is recorded, named, and can be reverted to at any time.
  • Visual annotations – freehand or vector annotations drawn on images are stored as a separate layer and can be linked between probe and reference to highlight matching features.
  • Video Manager – uploaded videos are processed faster than real time, faces are detected and identified, and each identified person is written to the case as a separate evidence with full timeline metadata.
  • Hit detail report – a court-ready PDF report is generated automatically when a hit is confirmed.
  • Search history – every identification request, all of its parameters and its complete candidate list are persisted.
  • Personal cases – every authorised user has a private personal case for ad-hoc work that does not fit into a shared investigation.

Platform qualities

  • Scalability – every component is designed for horizontal and vertical scaling, supporting galleries up to hundreds of millions of records.
  • High availability – redundant deployment, automatic health monitoring and failover. No single point of failure.
  • Disaster recovery – active-active and active-passive deployment models are supported.
  • Security – OAuth2 authentication, fine-grained permissions, comprehensive audit log, mTLS for inter-service communication.
  • Modular architecture – modules can be enabled per project, allowing the deployed solution to match the needs and budget of the agency.
  • Interoperability – ANSI/NIST-ITL, ISO/IEC 19794, WSQ, JPEG2000, NCIC and standard PDF reporting are all supported out of the box.
  • Observability – built-in tracing, logging and metric collection for every service.
  • REST APIs – every functional area exposes a REST interface that can be consumed from any modern programming language.

Why Innovatrics ABIS for criminal investigation?

  • Speed – the matcher delivers sub-second identification responses against very large reference galleries.
  • Accuracy – Innovatrics algorithms regularly rank among the top performers in NIST PFT, ELFT and FRVT evaluations.
  • Flexibility – the same platform can serve a small forensic lab or a national police service.
  • Auditability – every action performed in the system is logged, every snapshot of evidence is retained, every examination decision is preserved.
  • Future-proof – the platform is continuously updated with new algorithms, new modalities and new forensic features without requiring full re-deployment.
