Business modules

Innovatrics ABIS Criminal Investigation uses a modular architecture that allows agencies to deploy only the functionality they actually need. The modules listed in this chapter are the ones that are relevant for forensic and investigative work; civil-only modules (document issuance, voters management, etc.) are not described here.

Forensic modules​

  • Criminal Case Management – the primary module for storage of forensic evidence, including latent fingerprints, facial photographs, videos, DNA profiles and other case material. Provides PDF reporting, search-history persistence and SMT / body / face characteristic search.

  • Latent Editor – a web-based editor providing latent print editing and storage, enabling latent-to-plain, latent-to-rolled and latent-to-latent matching. Facial photos can also be edited to enhance the chance of successful identification.

  • Comparison Tool – side-by-side visual comparison of probe and candidate biometric data. Provides eye-position normalisation for faces, image normalisation for prints and matching-feature highlighting. Integrated with the workflow engine so that adjudication actions follow predefined decision logic.

  • ACE-V Workflow – first-class support for the ACE-V methodology. Examinations are tracked end-to-end through Analysis, Comparison, Evaluation and Verification, with full state history and blind verification.

  • Video Manager – face detection and identification from pre-recorded video footage. Includes a video player, video processing tools and storage.

  • DNA Identification – identification of an applicant based on a DNA profile. Beyond direct matching the module is also able to find persons sharing kinship.

Cross-cutting modules​

  • Web Supervisor and Audit – web-based interface for record browsing (search, filter, sort), system administration, audit log inspection and monitoring. Includes split-screen viewing for adjudication, instant search and configurable dashboards.

Underlying biometric capabilities​

The modules above are powered by the standard biometric modality licences of Innovatrics ABIS:

  • Biometric Modality – face, iris or fingerprint storage, 1:1 verification and 1:N identification.
  • Additional Modality Verification – additional face / iris / fingerprint storage and 1:1 verification.
  • Additional Modality Identification – additional 1:N identification per modality.

In a Criminal Investigation deployment fingerprints (including palms and latent prints) and faces are the most commonly licensed modalities; iris and DNA are added for agencies that operate at higher security levels.

Disaster recovery​

For agencies with strict continuity requirements, two disaster-recovery options are available:

  • Active-active DR – continuous operation across multiple sites, with automatic synchronisation between primary and secondary site.
  • Active-passive DR – stand-by secondary site that takes over when the primary fails. Synchronisation is managed by the agency.
