Biometric E-Gates
Automated traveler verification at border checkpoints — 1:1, 1:N, and multi-biometric ready.
The e-gates solution provides biometric components for automated traveler identity verification at border control checkpoints. The system enables automatic facial capture with integrated liveness detection to ensure the presence of a live person and prevent spoofing attempts. The captured face can be matched 1:1 against the passport photograph, a QR code-based digital credential, or 1:N against central biometric databases or watchlists for seamless, passport-free journeys. For e-gates equipped with additional sensors, the platform also supports fingerprint and iris recognition.
Adaptive verification
The gate is built around 1:N identification as the primary mechanism, with dynamic multi-factor escalation based on confidence levels:
- Primary — 1:N facial identification against central biometric databases or watchlists
- Optional / enforced — additional modalities such as palm or fingerprint, applied when confidence is insufficient or policy demands it
- Fallback (last resort) — 1:1 verification against the passport photograph or a QR code-based digital credential
Most travelers pass on the first step alone. This transforms the eGate from a fixed checkpoint into a confidence-based identity control point, enabling both high-security operation and seamless, passport-free journeys.
Capabilities
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Automatic facial capture | Face auto-capture components or face detection from a live video stream at the gate; auto-capture available for Android and as a Web component |
| Passive liveness detection (PAD) | Confirms a live person is present and prevents presentation attacks without requiring user actions |
| 1:1 verification | Face matched against the passport photograph or a QR code-based digital credential |
| 1:N identification | Identification against central biometric databases or watchlists for seamless, passport-free journeys |
| Local 1:N identification | Search against a closed local set of up to 1,000 records, performed on the gate or on a server |
| Multi-biometric escalation | Fingerprint and iris verification on gates equipped with the corresponding sensors |
| ICAO face quality validation | Captured images validated against ICAO quality requirements |
| Age estimation | Estimated traveler age from facial images |
| Real-time agent monitoring | Alerts and traveler context streamed to the operator console as travelers pass |
| Reporting | Passage and verification outcomes available for operational reporting |
| Peripheral integration | Gate peripherals integrated upon request, confirmed during project preparation |
Components we provide
Innovatrics provides the biometric software components of the e-gate; the physical gate hardware comes from the gate manufacturer or system integrator. Integration with gate peripherals is available upon request — see Gate Hardware Integration.
We deliver face auto-capture components or face detection software from a live video stream (auto-capture available for Android and as a Web component), 1:1 face, fingerprint, and iris matchers, passive face liveness check, ICAO face quality validation, plus software deliverables, documentation, and development licenses. On-gate 1:N identification runs against a closed local set of up to 1,000 records; larger-scale identification is performed against central databases.
From capability to event
Like the corridor, the e-gate publishes its outcomes through the shared Hub as standardized notifications, with gate units configured as TYPE=EGATE. Consumers integrate through the same /graphql endpoint and Event Catalog; when eGate-specific topics diverge from corridor topics, prefixed topics (egate.*) will be added without breaking existing subscribers.
