Bulk enrollment

Bulk enrollment registers many members from a folder of images in one run, with the watchlist links, names and labels taken from the file names. It is meant for the initial load of a watchlist or for periodic imports handed over as files; for a scripted import from another system use the REST API instead. Start it with REGISTER NEW MEMBERS in the title bar of the Watchlists page and pick the Simple or Advanced tab.

Simple mode

Simple mode is the normal member registration with one addition: before you upload the photos you tick one or more Watchlists, and every registered member is linked to all of them. Select the watchlists, click NEXT, then drop up to 30 photos, enter the names and confirm as usual.

Advanced mode

Advanced mode takes a whole directory and derives the member data from the file names:

  1. Tick the Watchlists the members should be linked to. The remaining fields appear once at least one is selected.
  2. Drag the directory onto the marked area or click choose directory. Station counts the image files (.jpeg, .jpg, .png), the files matching the pattern and the distinct members found.
  3. Adjust the File name pattern until the counts are right (see below).
  4. Click START REGISTRATION, check or change the detection settings (face size limits and confidence threshold used to find the face in each image) and Confirm.

Registration runs in the browser, calling the API for several members in parallel (BULK_MEMBER_REGISTER_PARALLELISM in .env.station, default 4). The result screen lists files processed, members registered successfully, failed members and remaining members, plus a processing log per file that you can copy. A failed file typically has no detectable face or a name that does not match the pattern; fix the files or the pattern and run again, since only the remaining files are processed.

File name patterns

The pattern describes how a file name maps to member data. The extension is matched separately.

PlaceholderMeaning
{id}Member identifier. Files with the same {id} are grouped into one member with several images. Without {id} every file becomes a member with a generated identifier.
{memberName}Display name of the member; may be empty.
{label:KEY}Value for the member label with key KEY, as configured by WATCHLIST_MEMBER_KEY_n in .env.station (see Configuration).
*Wildcard for any text you do not need.
{ext}File extension, for example jpg or png.

Three images of one person, grouped by identifier:

Pattern: {id}-{memberName}-*.{ext}

3-john_doe-1.jpg
3-john_doe-2.jpg
3-john_doe-3.jpg

id = 3, memberName = john_doe, three images on one member

One image per person with a label value:

Pattern: {memberName}-{label:dob}.{ext}

john_doe-19850102.jpg

id generated, memberName = john_doe, label dob = 19850102

The default pattern is {id}_{memberName}. Files that do not fit the pattern are ignored and reported in the counts, so check Files matching the pattern before you start.
