Border Control Platform

Border Control Platform solution provides an extensible and interoperable platform enabling governments, airports, and system integrators to build traveler management and facilitation systems for borders — powered by biometrics, configurable workflows, and real-time encounter intelligence.

The platform encompasses traveler pre-registration, kiosk travel authorization, border post and land border authentication — all unified through a single biometric border control platform.

It provides leading biometric matching, encounter orchestration, and endpoint synchronization for smart corridors and e-gates.

What it does

The platform enables travelers to complete most immigration procedures autonomously — by walking up to a gate or kiosk, looking into the camera, and having their identity verified in real time. Underlying capabilities include:

  • Face recognition — confirms that the passenger is the passport holder; algorithms consistently top-ranked in NIST FRTE 1:1 and NIST FRTE 1:N evaluations
  • Fingerprint identification — slap fingerprint capture with NFIQ2 quality scoring; the same matching pipeline accepts contactless fingerprint templates too.
  • Contactless fingerprint capture — fingerprints captured via the device camera, without specialized hardware. Available on Android and iOS via the Pre-Enrollment Toolkit (traveler-side, from-home), and on kiosks via the Kiosk & PC Enrollment Toolkit. Same matching pipeline as slap fingerprint.
  • Iris recognition — high-assurance modality; contactless capture using deep learning-based feature extraction; patterns are stable throughout a person's lifetime, eliminating re-enrollment over long deployment lifecycles; one of the lowest false match rates of any biometric modality
  • Contactless palm recognition — palm identity verification via standard IP cameras; no specialized hardware required; video injection detection prevents spoofing; intentional gesture signals traveler consent; unaffected by temperature or seasonal conditions
  • Document reading — AI-based OCR for travel documents (passports, visas, ID cards) covering Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Thai, Traditional Chinese, and Bengali scripts; NFC chip reading per ICAO Doc 9303 (TD1, TD2, TD3 — e-passports, national eIDs, electronic driver's licenses, residence permits) with BAC, Passive Authentication, and Active / Chip Authentication; MRZ parsing; cross-checking OCR / MRZ / NFC; QR and barcode extraction; document authenticity checks including screen-attack and color-profile forgery detection
  • Age estimation — estimates traveler age and gender from facial images; validates both against document-stated values to support detection of unaccompanied minors and enforcement of age-restricted travel conditions; algorithms trained to provide unbiased estimations across demographics and independently evaluated under NIST FATE AEV
  • Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) — three-layer anti-spoofing for self-service kiosks and enrollment flows: passive and active liveness detection (ISO 30107-3 Level 2, 100% iBeta Level 2 accuracy, 99.9% completion, results under 1 second), deepfake detection using noise pattern analysis to identify AI-generated and face-swapped images including from unknown AI architectures, and video injection detection with a 4-stage encrypted pipeline that blocks virtual cameras, Android emulation, HDMI replacement, container apps, and man-in-the-middle attacks
  • Customizable rule sets — checkpoint-specific logic for admission, flagging, and routing

About the platform:

Modules of the platform — see Border Control Platform Modules for the full catalog and how the modules work together:

  • Border Control Core — Core service and ABIS matching engine (data repository, identify / verify / enroll engine — no UI, no workflows, no encounter, no journey)
  • Traveler Management Module — person-centric operational repository; Journeys, Encounters, Workflows, and Traveler Hub
  • Pre-Enrollment Toolkit — SDK suite for traveler-facing mobile and web apps (e-visa, travel pre-enrollment)
  • Kiosk & PC Enrollment Toolkit — cross-platform SDK for self-service or assisted enrollment at kiosks and PCs
  • Border Post Module — fully delivered officer workstation for traveler enrollment, identification, and verification
  • Mobile Field Biometric Toolkit — Android SDK and white-label solution for handheld field operations at land borders, checkpoints, and in-field enforcement
